Hi Everyone

The Christmas party is coming up on the 2nd December at the hall It starts at 7pm and will be £10 per head. Christine Taylor is cooking a traditional Xmas dinner this year and all of you who came to the Harvest Supper will know what a great cook she is and what a fantastic meal she provided!
If you would like to come it is vital that you let me know by this weekend as she needs to know the numbers for the catering. Please also let me know of any dietary requirement, if you’re a vegetarian or coeliac she will be able to provide suitable food for you.
We need to make sure we have sufficient numbers to meet the outlay to provide the meal so PLEASE let me know if you are coming by this Saturday. My phone number is 01626 863967 or reply to this email.

Best wishes

Grace

Hi Everyone

This is just a reminder about Sunday 19th of November. Ian Davies our local choirmaster has very kindly agreed to hold another workshop for us (by popular demand). I have heard from a few people to confirm they will be coming but I would really like to hear from you if you intend coming as I am planning to do a cream tea and cakes. Ian I’m sure would also like to know numbers to give him some idea of song sheets.

It will be from 2pm until 4pm and what better way to spend a couple of hours on a Sunday afternoon. Ian makes it so enjoyable and everyone has a great time.

We are also waiting to hear from anyone who is likely to come to the Bingo, planned for Friday 24th November. If I don’t hear from enough people (we need at least 30), then I’m afraid it won’t be happening, so if you do want to come please reply to me. Either reply to this email or ring me on 01626 863967.

Thats all for now folks

Best wishes

We are going to try a Bingo evening again on Friday 24th November and Jimmy Hill has kindly offered to run it for us. Once again I must stress that we need at least 30 people to attend to make it worth while. If you want this to happen please get in touch with me as soon as possible.

That's all folks. Don’t forget to let me know if you would like to come to any of these events. My phone number is 01626 863967 or message me back on this email address

My email to our local MP

Dear Anne Marie

I have posted on your Facebook page and the Spotlight South West Facebook page a few weeks ago because of extreme frustration of really poor broad band speeds. I have heard nothing back from you. My husband and I are trying to run a business from home, with download speeds 3.06Mb and upload speeds 0.34Mb!!!!!!! It is not surprising that we are unable to do this. We feel very let down, very angry that the rest of the UK is moving forward with superfast broadband and we and many others in rural communities are being severely disadvantaged. We are unable to get reasonable broadband speeds, we are being discriminated against. The rural areas in the UK are being left behind.

Our address is Palm House, Mamhead, EX6 8HP. 01626 863785

The area where we live is occupied by a diverse group of people of different ages but many are still able to contribute economically and are at a stage in their careers where they could run consultancy businesses or technology based businesses if the broad band speeds were improved. In the neighbouring valley to us, Ashcombe they get an excellent signal through Airband and there are several residents there that fall into this category and because they are able to get super fast broadband and they can work from home as effectively as if they are with clients. We are not in this happy position.

I have just been in contact with Airband, despite the fact that their web site initially shows that we should be covered, apparently we are not! The neighbouring valley Ashcombe gets a signal but they cannot beam it to Mamhead because the hill and the trees get in the way. They are telling me that there is no antenna in Exmouth, despite the neighbouring valley (Ashcombe) getting a signal. Which is very perplexing because where does Ashcombe get its signal from?

According to Connecting Devon and Somerset web site

PALM HOUSE, ROAD FROM IVY COTTAGE CROSS TO SHERWELLS CROSS, MAMHEAD, EX6 8HP
CDS has been told by a number of telecoms companies that they have plans to invest across our intervention area.
According to our records your property is either currently, or planned to be, covered through one of these private sector investments by the end of 2019. As such, we are not able to invest public money in your area under European Commission State Aid rules.

So we can't get any government support

It seems to us that the government is paying lip service to this issue. Fund a quango to tell everyone that they can't get broadband but not actually improve the lot of the rural communities

We can't get support or help and because someone somewhere plans to invest and hence we are forgotten.

I appreciate that this in one of your election promises so its a very simple question - please provide proof of who is going to deliver a decent broadband speed to our area. Because Airband don’t seem interested in doing it. So WHICH COMPANY and WHEN? Every business needs clarity on this issue and as we face Brexit we must be able to plan.

Regards
Jane Laffan
